Slitmask Design Software
Current Status
- At present, two slitmask design programs are in use for designing LRIS
slitmasks:
... 1. autoslit (written by Judy Cohen) is the
officially supported software (written in FORTRAN).
... 2. simulator (written by Drew Phillips) is an IRAF
task, originally based on autoslit but now evolved
to be completely independent.
- Both programs currently handle differential refraction.
- simulator includes dispersion vector to help observer plan
mask PAs.
These programs will/may need to be modified to include distortions
produced by the ADC.
- The level of these distortions is TBD.
- If distortions are non-negligible, the programs will need to provide
indications of the acceptable range in Hour Angle for a given mask
design.
- Opportunity to consolidate LRIS/DEIMOS/ESI slitmask
design code.
Budget/Schedule
1. Propose: characterizing the distortions as polynomials
1 weeks
2. Propose: modifying DEIMOS slitmask design software to handle LRIS
masks
6 + 3 weeks
- Core (proposal 1 only): 1 week ($2800)
- Proposal 2: 6-9 weeks ($17K-25K)
