What have 1-d simulations told us?
1-dimensional simulations are already very successful in matching observations of bursts.
- Predictions of rise times and durations.
- Yield the good lightcurves and luminosities.
- Can obtain nucleosynthetic yields (much larger networks can be carried in 1-d).
Series of bursts can be simulated in 1-d (e.g. Woosley 1984; Taam, Woosley, and Lamb 1993).
- Simulations seem to yield the right intervals.
- Sequences of bursts would be prohibitively expensive to compute in multi-D with explicit hydro.
1-d simulations assume completely uniform burning.
