Last August, at the General Assembly of the International Union of Radio
Scientists (URSI), the attached resolution was passed. The second
attachment should be an ascii version of the first. I am now going about
forming an URSI-wide committee to carry out the resolution, which will be
targeted to URSI members only.
In response to a question which I think came from Robert Seaman, please be
aware that although this listserv has no official status I do refer to the
comments and opinions I get from it at every forum I attend. Some of you
are opposed to a change, and in those cases I highly recommend linking up
with the appropriate official body. You should not rely on this listserv.
For most professional and amateur astronomers, the International
Astronomical Union (IAU) would probably be the best body to contact.
I must also point out that we have had some problems with the listserv
software, among them the loss of the employee who was best at managing it.
If you experience any problems that appear to be computer-related, it may be
best to notify me directly at dnm_at_usno.navy.mil.
