What useful extensions have we found?
... There are lots and lots of extensions to Tcl/Tk
beyond a basic working version of the interpreter.
Some of those we have used here and found good are:
- blt (Bell Labs Tcl) ftp:ftp.aud.alcatel.com/tcl/extensions/BLT-1.7.tar.gz
- a few miscellaneous Tk widgets and features, nicely done
- tcl-dp (distributed processing Tcl) ftp: tcl-dp3.2.tar.gz
- added functionality for interprocess communications, RPC support, etc.
- expect (best built as a separate interpreter)
- a handy tool for automating alpha terminal activity like telnet and ftp
- scotty (best built as a separate interpreter)
- Tcl with major TCP, UDP, ICMP, and SNMP extensions: write your own
network management tools easily and quickly
- vuw-meters (the "New Zealand widgets") ftp: get it from us
- some really nice meter widgets with builtin timers and interrupt service
- graph
- graphing widget extensions
- sybtcl (Sybase extension for Tcl) ftp: sybtcl-2.11.tar.gz
- uses Sybase dblib (OpenClient) to permit embedded SQL programming using
tcl
- tclXess (for the commercial spreadsheet Xess) ftp from AIS
- permits "remote control" of spreadsheet, via Xess API; get it
from AIS (the Xess people) via
FTP or at their
web site
- nlitcl (for the commercial product Natural Language) ftp: from us
