Field Definitions for table ESO_UPPSALA_B

If the database maintainer has set up a data dictionary, then this form will show information defining and explaining each field in the table ESO_UPPSALA_B. When an asterisk appears following the column data type (like int *) this indicates that this column is indexed in the database server for faster searches.
FieldTypeDescription
sybidint
RAHint *RA hours 1950
RAMint RA minutes 1950
RASint RA seconds 1950
DSchar Dec sign
DecDint *Dec degrees 1950
DecMreal Dec arcmin 1950, floating point
Ident1char *Identity string: XXX-YYYZZZ where XXX is the field number from 0 (South Pole) to 606, YYY is the object class, and ZZZ is the original running number for the plate area.
Ident2char Various identifier strings for other catalog ID''s such as NGC numbers, Messier numbers, etc.
GalLonreal Galactic longitude in degrees 1950
GalLatreal Galactic latitude in degrees 1950
Xcoordreal Coordinates are in millimeters from origin at the plate center
Ycoordreal Coordinates are in millimeters from origin at the plate center
MajAxisint Units of .1 arcmin
MajAxQchar A colon (:) in this field indicates that the axis measurement is uncertain or is a total diameter for pairs or other tuples which are difficult to resolve
MinAxisint Units of .1 arcmin
MinAxQchar A colon (:) in this field indicates that the axis measurement is uncertain or is a total diameter for pairs or other tuples which are difficult to resolve
PosAngleint The angle of the major axis, measured from N through E for elongated galaxies; in degrees
PosAnQchar A colon (:) in this field indicates uncertainty about the position angle.
MorphTychar The morphological type codes follow the conventions of the 2nd Reference Catalog of Bright Galaxies, except that type S is coded as +5 and type S.../Irr is coded as +7
Classifchar The estimated Hubble class. All elliptical galaxies are classified E regardless of the degree of ellipticity, and class SBO has been added
Descripchar Common abbreviations can be found in Holmberg, Lauberts, Schuster and West 1974.
Flagschar Each of 5 bytes is blank or contains a value. Nonblank meanings: (byte 1) note exists (2) galaxy is listed in MCG (3) RC1 listing (4) VV 1959 listing (5) Arp 1966 listing
V_Breal B Magnitude
ME_AperBreal If value is <1 it is the mean error in magnitude. If >1 then it is the aperture size in arcsec.
Ref_Bchar Key to the references supplement for magnitudes and radial velocities
B_V_Colreal Magnitude in B-V
U_B_Colreal Magnitude in U-B
Ref_Colchar Key to references supplement for magnitudes and colors
RadVelint Radial Velocity in km/sec
ME_RVint Mean error of radial velocity
Ref_RVchar Key to references supplement for radial velocities
notevarchar Supplemental note (from notes.dat) incorporated into base table; null if no note for this object (majority). Only 1405 notes for 18422 objects.
